Technical Description
Empowering AI Data Centers with Energy-Efficient Compound Semiconductor Solutions
This initiative integrates Taiwan’s industry-academia-research resources to deliver a comprehensive solution for the energy-saving and energy storage needs of AI data centers — from compound semiconductor devices and power module packaging to full system integration.
Through the establishment of a DC micro-grid demonstration site, we develop application-oriented power devices and modules, driver and control circuits, and promote cross-sector collaboration to drive industrial synergy and strategic partnerships.
On the power generation side, ITRI incorporates renewable energy sources such as SiC-based hybrid solar inverters, wind power, and fuel cells.
On the load side, ITRI deploys fast chargers for e-scooters and bidirectional V2G DC fast chargers tailored for EVs, integrating GaN power devices, energy storage systems, and SiC solid-state relays. Power conversion is enabled by solid-state transformers supporting up to 800V.
The developed technologies will be validated and showcased in the micro-grid field site, demonstrating real-world application potential. This not only accelerates technology deployment and industrial adoption but also reinforces Taiwan’s autonomy in compound semiconductor technologies. The solution paves the way for innovative business models, empowering domestic companies to deliver high-value technical services to global markets.
