Technical Description

Traditional mechanical relays used in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) operate by physical contact for switching. As a result, the response time is usually limited by the movement of contact points and the momentary action of the springs. As time goes by, the physical switching mechanism will be affected by arc phenomenon and abrasion, that will further lead to the system failures, poor contact or contact stuck. In order to solve the above problems, ITRI develops a solid-state reply integrated by high voltage silicon carbide device to replace the traditional mechanical relays, achieving high efficiency, faster switching, avoid wearing, higher reliability and anti-vibration characteristics, and comprehensively enhance the overall performance and stability of battery energy storage systems.
